Faculty Best Practices Seminar
2007-2008
As part of an introduction to Dixie State College, the Academic Administration, the Human Resources department, and the Faculty Senate have arranged a series of participatory seminars to introduce new faculty to the College and our particular student-centered teaching values. These seminars will be held monthly, on the third Friday of each month from September through April (excluding December) from
3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Dates for the 2007-2008 academic year:

- October 19
- Professionalism in Academics: Topic and Technique, Content and Conduct
- November 9
- Engaging DSC Students: Recruitment & Retention Are Everybody’s Business
- January 18
- The Tenure Process: Teaching, Service, and Professionalism
- February 15
- Teaching Diverse (and not-so-diverse) Student Populations in the 21st Century
- March 21
- Assessment, Accreditation, Academic Standards, Integrity, & Rigor
- April 18
- Who Are We? A Community College with Baccalaureate Degrees, or a 4-Year College with Community College Offerings?
Although geared specifically toward new faculty in their first year of service at DSC, other recently hired faculty will be included, and all faculty are welcome to attend. More than “basic training,” we believe that the 14 hours you dedicate to these seminars will enhance your experience at DSC as well as heighten your teaching abilities and increase your service activities. We also hope this program will make you feel more at home here and that it helps you develop a network of colleagues across campus. We look forward to working with you throughout your first (or nearly first) year.
