Applying for Federal Student Aid

Applying for Federal Student Aid (grants, work-study and/or loans) at DSC is easier than ever before. Just follow these steps:

1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov using your Dept of Ed Personal Identification Number (PIN). If you do not have a PIN, see “Apply for a PIN” on the same website. If you are a dependent student, your parent will also need to apply for a PIN. Please be sure to add DSC’s school code (003671) when submitting your application.

2. Before beginning a FAFSA, and to simplify filling out the FAFSA, we recommend that you gather the required documents and other information. We also recommend that you print out a FAFSA on the Web Worksheet, fill in the information on this worksheet and then complete the FAFSA on-line. The worksheet can be found at www.fafsa.ed.gov
select FAFSA on the Web Worksheet Option in Step 1.  Documents you will need to gather to apply for the 2008-2009 academic year:

·        Your Social Security number and your parents’ Social Security numbers if you
      are providing parent information
·        Your driver’s license number if you have one
·        Your alien Registration Number if you are not a U.S. citizen
·        Independent students: signed copy of you and your spouse’s 2007 federal tax return, if you are required to file, including
all W-2 forms and schedules; statements of untaxed income received and current bank statements
·        Dependent students:  signed copy of your parent(s) 2007 federal tax return, if they are required to file, including all W-2
forms and schedules; statements of untaxed income received and current bank statements
·        Records of untaxed income, such as Social Security benefits, Temporary Assistance for needy Families (TANF), and
veterans benefits, for yourself (and for your parents if you are providing parent information); and information on savings,
investments and business and farm assets for yourself (and for your parents if you are providing parent information)

Please note that if your processed FAFSA is selected for verification, the Office of Financial Assistance may request copies of the above documents.
