Dixie State Symphony Orchestra MUSC 3350

Performing ensemble for all interested student musicians with previous instrumental orchestra or band experience, including woodwinds, brass, strings, and percussion.  Students will develop sight reading, rehearsal, and public performance skills as well as knowledge of and appreciation of the symphonic literature of the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th century composers.  No audition required.    Repeatable up to 8 credits subject to graduation restrictions.


String Chamber Music MUSC 4430

For string musicians desiring study in instrumental chamber ensembles such as string trios, quartets, quintets, and sextets.  Emphasis on basic repertoire, small ensemble performance techniques, and rehearsal skills.  Students should be concurrently enrolled in private string lessons.  Groups are required to meet two hours each week: one hour for rehearsal as an ensemble and one hour with faculty for a coaching lesson.  Public performances required.   Repeatable up to 8 credits subject to graduation restrictions.  Prerequisite: Instructor permission. Corequisite:  MUSC 3350.   FA, SP

Dixie State College String Audition Requirements:


VIOLIN/VIOLA/CELLO:

      -two contrasting solo demonstrating your ability on you individual instrument

      -a three octave major scale in 8th notes at quarter note = 60 bpm

      -a three octave melodic minor scale in 8th notes at quarter note = 60 bpm


DOUBLE BASS:

      -two contrasting solo demonstrating your ability on you individual instrument

      -a two octave major scale in 8th notes at quarter note = 60 bpm

      -a two octave melodic minor scale in 8th notes at quarter note = 60 bpm

 

Auditions will last around fifteen minutes.  It is recommended that you schedule a live audition but recorded auditions will also be considered.
