Hello from St. George!

There is a place for you in the Dixie State College Music Department! Performance opportunities abound. A faculty of accomplished musicians and dynamic teachers guide students.

Dixie State College is proud to announce the formation of the St. George Youth Symphony (SGYS), a new, full orchestra for advanced high-school aged musicians in Southern Utah.

SGYS will be an intensive orchestra experience primarily intended for grades 10-12 (younger, talented students may also be accepted through audition) and will rehearse Mondays, 4-6 PM, starting in late January, 2012.

During the UMEA Mid-Winter Conference Professor Gary Caldwell will lead the Dixie State College Symphonic Band as part of a session.  The presentation will explain how different physical set ups can effect the sound of an ensemble. Come visit the session on Friday February 3, 2012 at 3:30p.m. in the South Exhibit Hall.

The Dixie State Symphony Orchestra (DSSO) welcomes French Violinist Frédéric Moreau who will join the orchestra in a performance of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in a concert February 25, 2012 at the Cox Auditorium. The concert is under the direction of Dr. Paul Abegg.
With nearly one hundred concerts as a soloist each year, Frédéric Moreau captivates audiences with his interpretations, his virtuosity and his charisma. Founder, soloist and director of the "Violons de France," he is also a member of the Solstice Trio and the Goldoni Quartet.  He plays a 1760 G.B. Guadagnini violin.
The orchestra will also feature harpist Adriana Horn from the Dixie State Music Faculty in the Adagietto for Strings and Orchestra by Gustav Mahler.  The symphony will also perform the Overture from “Russlan and Ludmilla and Sibelius Symphony No. 2.
