There are two classes that are required of majors that prompt the most questions. One is an orientation course, MUSC 1001 Freshman Music Experience. This follows the lead of other successful degree based orientation courses at DSC. The objectives of this course include successful orientation to the department and the college and transitioning from high school to college.

The other course is MUSC 1000 Concert Attendance. Appreciation of music deepens and matures only through focused listening and involvement in musical performance as an audience member. This experience emphasizes critical listening of a wide range of music literature and performances. It will prepares students with real-life models for future recitals and will provide students models of artistic standards, a variety of musical literature, and make students aware of non-musical issues of performances as they develop as musicians. Students will become better acquainted with music literature, history, and performance practices from different period and genres.

Students also have the option to combine there study of music with another disciple by using the Integrated Studies degree. Detailed information on the Integrated Studies degree can be found here.
