Nursing Assistant

 Our Nurse Assistant (CNA) program trains approximately 275 students each semester to work in long term care facilities, home health, and hospital settings, and to continue in nursing education. The curriculum includes lab instruction in a state of the art nursing laboratory, traditional classroom instruction, and hands-on clinical experiences at various long term care facilities in the area. Our instructors are qualified, caring individuals devoted to students’ success.

Required Materials:
  • Textbook and Workbook
  • Scrub top and bottom
  • White shoes
  • A mandatory TB skin test and Hepatitis B immunization series

 

COURSE DETAILS

Nurse Assistant Course = 4 credit hours 

  • NURS 1005 Nurse Assistant
    •  45 hours of lecture per semester
  • NURS 1006 Nurse Assistant Lab
    • 45 hours of lab per semester
  • NURS 1007 Nurse Assistant Clinical
    • 24 hours of clinical per semester

Nurse Assistant classes are taught each semester with a variety of days and hours to fit most everyone's schedule.  Most of the classes are taught at the Taylor Health Science building in St. George, over the full semester, but there may be other options available at different times and locations depending on the specific semester.   

PROGRAM COST

  • The course is 4 credit hours and currently the tuition is $558.20 (based on Fall 2009 schedule)  There is also a $20 laboratory fee.
  • The textbook and workbook cost about $90
  • Other fees include uniforms and health requiremnts and the costs may vary. 

HOW TO REGISTER

  • Complete the Dixie State College application process.  If you are taking just the CNA course you may apply as a non-degree seeking student. 
  • Register for the course.  As you do this make sure you select the same section for NURS 1005, 1006 and 1007 or it will not process. 
    • Labs are icluded with the classroom time.
    • Clinicals will be scheduled with the instructor at a later date.
  • Pay tuition at cashier's office before the deadline.
