Certified Nursing Assistant

Our Nurse Assistant (CNA) program trains approximately 200 students each semester to work in long term care facilities, home health, and hospital settings, and to continue in nursing education. The curriculum includes lab instruction in a state of the art nursing laboratory, traditional classroom instruction, and hands-on clinical experiences at various long term care facilities in the area. Our instructors are qualified, caring individuals devoted to students’ success.

  • Textbook and Workbook
  • Blood pressure cuff
  • Stethescope
  • Matching scrub top and bottom (not white)
  • White shoes
  • A mandatory TB skin test and Hepatitis B immunization series
Course Details
Nurse Assistant Course = 4 credit hours
  • NURS 1005 Nurse Assistant: 70 hours of lecture and labs per semester
  • NURS 1007 Nurse Assistant Clinical: 24 hours of clinical per semester

Nurse Assistant classes are taught each semester with a variety of days and hours to fit most everyone's schedule. Most of the classes are taught at the Taylor Health Science building in St. George. Classes run the full semester. Other classes may be available at different locations depending on the specific semester. Check the current class schedule.

Program Cost
  • The course is 4 credit hours and currently the tuition is $692.00 (based on Fall 2011 schedule) There is also a $30 laboratory fee.
  • The textbook and workbook cost about $90
  • Other costs vary and may include uniforms, health requirements, and liability insurance.
How To Register
  • Complete the Dixie State College application process. If you are taking just the CNA course you may apply as a non-degree seeking student.
  • Register for the course. As you do this make sure you select a section for NURS 1005 and one for 1007 or it will not process.
  • Labs are icluded with the classroom time.
  • Clinicals are scheduled at the time of registration.
  • Pay tuition at cashier's office before the deadline. You may contact the financial aid office for more information.
CNA testing
  • The written test is administered at the testing center. Please contact them directly to see the days and times. 435.652.7692 or 7696.
  • The skills test is administered at the Taylor Health Science Building. You may schedule by phone 435.879-4810 but must have your voucher before scheduling the test. There is about 2-3 weeks wait for a skills testing date.
  • Make sure to bring your vouchers and a photo ID at the time of testing for both the skills and written test.
