Medical Radiography Application Scoring

Applicants are selected to the Medical Radiography Program according to the following point system:

1. Prerequisite Course Grades - 60 possible points
  Each of the 10 pre-requisite courses (labs counted separately) is awarded between 0 and 4 points, based on the grade earned (see below).  The total number of points is multiplied by 1.5 to get a score out of a possible 60 points.  Applicants not having completed a prerequisite by the application date will receive 0 points for that course. 

Please note that all prerequisites must be completed with a C or better by the end of the spring semester prior to entering the program.  A cumulative GPA of 2.7 (B-) or higher for all Medical Radiography prerequisite courses is required.

2. PSB Health Occupations Aptitude Exam - 25 possible points
  Students will be scored in 5 areas on the PSB test including:
Academic Aptitude, Spelling, Reading Comprehension, Information in the Natural Sciences, and Vocational Adjustment Index.

In order for students to earn all 5 points in each area, they must score at or above
the 75th percentile. Students who score 74 or lower will not receive points for that area.

The PSB may be retaken ONCE to improve your scores.  In this case, the higher scores from both exams will be used.

4. Healthcare Work Experience (must be direct patient care contact, i.e. Medical Assistant, CNA, Phlebotomist, EMT)- 5 points
  1 Point: 1-2 months
2 Points:  3-5 months
3 Points:  6-8 months
4 Points:  9-11 months
5 Points:  1 year or more
 
5. Volunteer Experience (must be healthcare-related) - 5 Points
  1 Point:  1-2 months
2 Points:  3-5 months
3 Points:  6-8 months
4 Points:  9-11 months
5 Points:  1 year or more
  Total = 100 points
 

Additional Points

2 points will be awarded for 8 hours of clinical observation time in a radiology setting.

2 points will be awarded for prior selection as an alternate.
