Telephone Instructions for placing an initial 90 day fraud alert using EXPERIAN. Please call with pencil and paper in hand.

Dial 1-888-397-3742

You will hear the following requests for information.

Provide these answers.  

For a free offer press 1, All others press 2

PRESS 2

To obtain a copy of credit report press 1. To purchase a copy of credit score press 2. To place a fraud alert press 3

PRESS 3

If calling for a minor press 1. To add an alert press 2.

PRESS 2

You then receive an explanation that you will need to provide additional information. You are safe providing the info on this telephone number.

 

For temporary initial fraud alert press 1. For an active duty alert press 2. For instructions for 7 Year extension press 3. If you are Representative press 4.

You then receive instructions on how to use the Experian web site- www.experian.com/fraud – which is a good idea if you have Internet access – or you may hold to place the alert by phone.

To return to main menu press 1. To continue press 2. For instructions on how to remove an alert press 3.

PRESS 2

Asks for Social Security Number plus the # key. (It is safe to provide the Social Security Number on this call.)

SSN plus #

Correct press 1. Incorrect press 2.

PRESS 1 unless incorrect

Asks for your 5 digit Zip Code plus the # key

84020 #

Asks for numerical part of your home address. Eg. If address is 123 Elm Street, Apt 2, only give 123.

Your Address Numbers, in this example: 123

Asks for a phone number so creditors can call you before opening new accounts. This is optional so you press 1 to add a number, and 2 to skip.

Your Choice

Ask for a telephone extension if you gave your phone number. To add a phone extension press 1. To skip, press 2.

Your Choice

Instructs you to listen for a confirmation number. Be ready to write it down. When you get your confirmation number you are done. You DO NOT need to call the other reporting agencies
