Who should enroll in the Integrated Studies program?
The Integrated Studies program is ideal for many students:
Students who want to major in a discipline which does not currently have a bachelor’s degree at DSC
Students who have completed their associate’s degree and want to continue their education to receive a bachelor’s degree
Students who want to pursue interdisciplinary studies because of personal interest or future career / educational goals
What is Integrated Studies?
Integrated Studies is a baccalaureate program that allows students to combine two academic disciplines - called Emphasis Areas - with Core Requirements in a unique and individualized program.
Currently, fifteen (15) Emphasis Areas are available:
Art*
Biology
Business
Communication
Computer & Information Technology (select one area)
Computer Science
Information Technology
Visual Technology
Criminal Justice*
English
Music
Management & Operations*
Mathematics
Psychology
Spanish*
Theatre*
* currently not offered as a baccalaureate degree at DSC
What classes do Integrated Studies students need to take?
General Education requirements (31+ credits)*
Integrated Studies Core requirements (12 credits)
Emphasis Area #1 (minimum 21 credits)
Emphasis Area #2 (minimum 21 credits)
(requirements for each emphasis area are listed on specific Emphasis Area pages)
* some GE courses can also be used to satisfy Emphasis Areas requirements
What degree will I earn in Integrated Studies?
Students completing the program requirements and the DSC graduation requirements earn either:
Bachelor of Science in Integrated Studies
Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Studies (requires foreign langauge)
What can I do with an Integrated Studies degree?
Studies have shown that the important element in future job success, other than in areas like teaching or nursing that require specific licensure, a broad-based education culminating in a bachelor's
degree is the best preparation for success.
Students will be well-prepared for a variety of careers and opportunities based on their study in two Emphasis Areas and in the Core Requirements.
Most graduate programs accept a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree as preparation.
