Mathcounts 2009
The Dixie State Math Department hosted the regional Mathcounts competition on Friday, Feb 6, 2009. Mathcounts is a math competition involving 6th,7th, and 8th grade students from the Southern Utah area. The North Instructional Building was packed for the showdown with DSC students, teachers, administrators, and most importantly - very smart miniature mathmeticians (the contestants).

Dixie State Math Department congratulates all of the participants, especially the winner, Emmi Williams from Enterprise.

Many kudos to all of the DSC students who responded to the call for volunteers. We were overwhelmed by the willingness of our DSC students to take time out to help! The day was spent racking their brains correcting test after test after test.

It was a fabulous day for all. The Dixie State Math Department looks forward to the return of the program next year. Scott Mortensen, Math Chair, summed up the importance of Mathcounts with the following:
"(During the ages of 11 to 14) That's where they need to get excited about math because they're going to be the leaders of tomorrow," he said. "If we can continue getting kids interested, the brighter tomorrow will be."
