Prerequisites

Financing/Tuition Assistance: None

Pre-testing: Yes, you must take a pre-test for the Special Function Officer block.  Those registering for the Law Enforcement block took the test when they went to the Corrections Academy or The Special Function Officer block.  Please contact the testing center for dates and times.

Office: Browning Learning Center, Room 208 or visit the Testing Center POST website at http://new.dixie.edu/testing/post.php.  There is a fee of $30.00 to take the test.

This assessment test is required prior to completing an application for enrollment.
This test must be passed with at least 70% in all areas.  A study booklet is available in the library.

The POST test consists of four parts:
    Mathematics
    Reading Comprehension
    Grammar
    Incident Report Writing

Special Requirements: Students must be 21years of age at the time of completion of the Special Function Officer Block, pass a background investigation, and have a high school diploma or GED. Special Function Officer training is a prerequisite to the Law Enforcement Officer training.

Physical Testing 

There is a physical test requirement to graduate from training.  It would be a good idea to be in good shape.

            The physical test is as follows:

 

SFO Entrance:

 
                1.5 Mile Run-16:11
                Push Ups-14 Reps (Maximum repetitions with no time
                                               constraint and no rest during this
                                               phase of the test)
                Vertical Jump-14.5 inches
                Sit-Up-23 reps (One Minute)

 

NOTE: 300 Meter is not part of the SFO entrance

           

SFO Exit / LEO Entrance

                Vertical Jump-15 inches
                Sit-Up-25 reps (One Minute)

Sit-Up - 29 Reps in one minute

300 Meter - 64 seconds

Push ups - 21 (Maximum repetitions with no time constrant and no rest during this phase of the test)

The procedure and order for testing is recommended as follows:

          1. Warm up for 3 minutes; perform the vertical jump test and rest for two minutes.
          2. Perform the one minute sit up test and rest for 5 to 10 minutes.
          3. Perform the 300 meter run, then rest for 5 to 10 minutes.
          4. Perform the maximum push up test, then rest for 5 to 10 minutes.
          5. Do the cardio-warm up for 2 to three minutes, then perform the 1.5 mile run
              and cardio-cool down for 5 minutes.

Insurance Information for Self-Sponsored Students:
POST does not provide insurance benefits to students attending the Satellite Academies. Students are expected to provide their own insurance protection for injuries that may occur while participating in any basic training program.

Academic Requirements:
Students will be required to maintain a high academic standard through frequent tests and quizzes. Failure to meet the minimum academic requirements will result in expulsion from the Academy.

Ensure that your full name (as it appears on the original application), social security number, and date of application appear on the top of each page.
