SUSAN GARNER wears many hats at Dixie. She coordinates the tutoring programs on campus, offers advisement (academic, personal, career, financial, transfer) to SSS participants, and is committed to helping students feel successful and fulfilled during their time with SSS.
Susan graduated from Southern Utah State University with a degree in English and from Utah State University with an M.Ed degree. She has taught as a full time and adjunct instructor at Dixie State College in English composition, literature, humanities, and developmental education. Previously, she was the director of Community Education at Dixie State, the Washington County School District, and the city of St. George, and teacher for the Washington County School District.
Her personal employment history also includes fruit picker, carhop, waitress, retail sales, retail business owner, secretary, administrative assistant, hotel sales and marketing director. Students can rest assured that she has “been there, done that, and lived to tell the tale”.
Susan loves to travel. Her journeys have taken her to Europe several times. While her heart belongs to the British, her love of the USA keeps her in Dixie.
She is married to Dr. Ron Garner, director of music at Dixie State, and together they have eight married children, one deceased daughter, twenty-seven grandchildren (and still counting), two great-grandchildren, and one deceased great-grandchild.
Susan has been with Student Support Services since 2002. She enjoys helping students, whether it be in tutoring, academic advisement, or career exploration.
